Update

My new project brief was provided by D&AD student awards where the majority of the class submitted 3-4 boards. We will hear the results in the end of April i think.

I responded to the HP brief as it is a very open brief where anything is possible! My design is called Vessel and it is designed for hp workstations. My design gives a user an audio present, or message in a bottle, when the lid is removed. This will keep their creative juices flowing by the power of their positive emotions.

This is an example of one of my boards:

Right now i'm managing 2 blogs. My other one is for my university and is a tutorial/ diary of how I have been making my final working model. This is not for the publics eye of yet!

NCR

Ok so Dundee and Aberdeen went head to head in an NCR "selfish self service" competition where about half the class were given the opportunity to present their idea to NCR in hope that one of us would win an iPod Touch.

I was one from the class to present, unfortunately i did not make it through to the final but i did gain some valuable experience from doing so. Quite a nerve racking thing to do with some tough questions thank god i did not fuck it up!

3 from my class went through to the final, with one finishing in second! Well done Hannah with a really good presentation with a fun and interesting service.

My Selfish Self Service

Concept:

I just think that it is really strange bumping into people that are not quite there, and by that i mean totally absorbed in their music. Thats not a bad thing all the time.

But, by covering up their mouths in the mask we(the public) can see them and know who is totally away with it, so we don't try any form of communication with them, as i am currently doing...

So what do you think?!

"Plan Snooze"; our current state

This a fantastic book to read if you are interested in whats to come in the next couple of decades for the human population! It is a surprisenly realistic view about resource depletion which i felt were emphasized by including subjects like Iraq and the die out of Roman civilization. With out giving the book away, Heinberg explains where our civilization has gone wrong, who has it right, what that means, how to survive it and how to overcome it, especially with the credit crunch in place now.

It is a easy read with only 6 chapters, highly recommended!

Inspired yet?

I have handed in these photos for my inspirational image instead of the one below.

After receiving feedback from my cultural probes, i could not not put these photos in!

(I will expand on this once i have recieved permission from her to talk about it.)

capture your inspiration

I am inspired by things that you cherish and enjoy, things that you grow an emotional attachment to; cultural and social changes brought by the objects you own. Earlier forms of technology, I feel are good examples of this as it shows how we first adapted to such changes in our behaviour and living area. Emotional attachment to objects is a major interest and although we are not acutely aware of our behaviour towards objects, it does show.

I have chosen this picture as I feel it communicates how this family react, interact and come together for this radio.

Looking at this picture a little closer, you notice how casual and comfortable this family are towards their radio and show their love and tenderness towards it. This is clearly a time that they enjoy with each other and look forward to throughout the day, brought to them by the radio.

I like the idea of being able to provide change for the better, the goal is set!!
